Working in Switzerland as a citizen of an EU/EFTA member state
Short-term employment for citizens of the EU-26 / EFTA:
Did you know that you do not need a permit for short-term employment in Switzerland if you are an EU-26 / EFTA citizen? This applies for a period of up to three months or 90 days per calendar year. However, the future Swiss employer is obliged to register their employment using the electronic registration procedure. The notification must be made at least one day before employment is due to begin.
Long-term employment for citizens of the EU-26 / EFTA:
For employment lasting longer than three months, EU-27/EFTA citizens require a residence permit. Register with the communal authorities in the place you reside before taking up work. A valid identity card or a valid passport as well as the employer's declaration or employment certificate (in the case of non self-employed work) must be presented.
